EDSI began operating the Berks Employment, Advancement and Retention Network (EARN) Program in 2006. It is funded by the Berks County Workforce Investment Board. The EARN program provides services to individuals who are applying for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits, as well as individuals who are already receiving TANF benefits. Five percent of the population are Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients. Through progressive stages, participants who attend the EARN program will:

  • Learn soft skills
  • Increase computer knowledge
  • Build a strong resume
  • Understand how to utilize the Internet and social networking for work search
  • Develop skills required for obtaining and retaining employment
  • Receive support to retain employment

The ultimate goal of the program is self-sufficiency.

EDSI helped us to identify needs, prioritize training objectives and use our limited budget more wisely. Equally important, they allowed us to support our decisions with hard data. EDSI provided me with a package I could use to help drive activities. David Wright; Director of Training - Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority
